WSJ covers TikTok relationship test trend:

OK, so, you definitely should never read the WSJ! I am not recommending it.

Also, I was really struck by the idea that WSJ could have a long piece on TikTok orange peel and similar relationship tests (bird test, ketchup test), and not mention Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. I’m pretty sure that means we are making meaningful advances towards equality.

Or, alternatively, that no one gets those references anymore, and if sheer forgetfulness enables us to put some antifeminist propaganda permanently in the grave, I’m all for it.

Here is Vox on the topic of the orange peel (still no Shakespeare):

But there is absolutely more emphasis on how it is the woman’s job to tell the man how she wants to be treated. I go back and forth on this, but I do feel like there is a lot more messaging directed at women about how to both read the mind of the partner and to clearly explain herself than there is either or both directed at men in cis relationships.

This one’s kinda funny. Don’t dump your partner for failing to peel an orange. Sit down and ruminate over how patient they are with you. LOL

Vice brings the direct attack on women that I’ve been waiting for:

Slate piece starts out tart and sounding really old, but winds up with a nice tone; in the middle, a series of bulleted examples of people around the Slate office who have opinions.

You can tell a lot about a news outlet based on their coverage of a recent TikTok trend.

(Nobody needs to clean up my ketchup spills or peel my oranges. But you will have to sit through a lot of monologues about whatever the hell I’m currently obsessed with. I cannot emphasize enough how important that is to me, and how hard it is for anyone else to provide over the years. Which is why I blog. It helps distribute the load.)
