I got the last of the international photo mailers out, one day late. I walked over to West Acton to do it and it is kinda cold out there. I listened to Odd Lots; it was fine.
R. continues to install smart dimmer switches around the house. He seems to be fully through the learning curve. So far, no obvious problems. Perhaps outlets will happen at some point. Maybe in the New Year.
I read _Queen of Hearts_ by Jayne Castle, another surprise JAK kindle e-re-release. I think I’ve actually read that one before, altho I have a very different perspective on it this time. I remember actively disliking it last time. This time, I just chortled and was like, dude, you would _so_ be maimed if you pulled that shit on me. It’s a Kiss Me Kate / Taming of the Shrew rework, with all the attendant problems. But now, I see it very differently, because I can see all the parts that got reworked in later work to really excellent effect, minus the Taming of the Shrew framework. I’m _so_ glad she’s re-releasing these things, and without trying to update them. I’m mildly tempted to double check to make sure they haven’t been silently edited — it definitely happens! — but only mildly. The kind of rework I’m interested is unlikely to have been affected even by a fairly detailed re-editing of the book. To be clear — _NOT_ recommending this book to anyone at all really! I am just happy to have it available for the purposes of understanding how a very commercially successful author reuses material from earlier work in later work.
