I got more of the Lego 10307 Eiffel Tower deconstructed. I’m through the easy parts, and the next bit is going to be tricky.

I visited A., who used to be my Dutch instructor. Then the pandemic lockdowns happened, and his business took off for a while. But now things have stabilized in a routine where people feel generally comfortable getting together in person and sharing a meal, so we did. It was wonderful! We hung out. One dog has unfortunately passed (not unexpected — Quincy was quite elderly), but the other is still a delight and seems to remember me and we still love each other very much. There is also a new dog! Young, jumpy and bitey, but good natured. We walked with the dogs. We picked up the daughter (who is a delight as always, altho she does not remember me at all, but honestly, it’s been half her life so hardly a surprise) and we got takeout from Mr. Sushi. So much fun! I got hugs from his husband and that was also wonderful. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a new routine of seeing each other and sharing meals and having lovely conversations.

I walked with M. in the afternoon.

I got a phone call from A.’s program at school. She has apparently been getting into it a bit with another kid in the program. In her words, she is endeavoring to help him feel the kinds of things he makes other people feel. Unfortunately, this involved her trying to take away a bouncy ball of some sort that he had and he objected (all that is fine) but then he said, “Or I’ll stab you.” That is less fine. A. understood that this was not a serious threat, and she’s bigger than he is, so she didn’t take it seriously at all. But, you know, this is the kind of thing that could get that kid into quite a lot of trouble so there was followup which included a notification to me. I discussed with A. that while I have Zero Problems with her project, and while she is not in any trouble at all, and while being supportive and helpful and whatever to some kid in her class who has annoyed her to a level that she has decided to level it out a bit is in no way her job, well, despite all that, this kid is clearly already on fire so probably do not pour any more fuel onto that fire. Not because it’s her job or responsibility to help him, but because why. That’s just not necessary.

It is all very entertaining tho. Less so for the other kids’ parents, presumably. Altho honestly, if that kid is wandering around saying stabby things, l have some very real questions about parental choices. I was always extremely explicit and clear about Hey, Criminal Threats are Not Protected Speech. We don’t need that kind of drama. OTOH, some kids are just Drama from the day they are born and there’s only so much parents can do to mitigate that.

I also did the 3 mile walk with R. So that was almost 22K steps over the course of the day.
