Wednesday: emailed builder
May. 24th, 2023 08:38 amI emailed the builder we picked to let them know. This is such an odd moment.
Last night I finished _The Mimicking of Known Successes_ by Malka Older. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by her at all. It was a really good puzzle mystery, in a wonderful sf setting. There’s some pretty solid Holmes/Watson vibe going on, which is fun, altho in this case, the FF slow burn second chance / friends-to-lovers relationship is acknowledged openly and develops delightfully.
It was really delightful, and I see that Older has a trilogy, but it’s not clear that this novella fits at all into that other work. OTOH, there appears to be more Mossa and Pleiti in our future (the Imposition of Unnecessary Obstacles — what great titles these are!), so there’s that to look forward to (next February, apparently).
ETA: A. really had a tough time getting going this morning, and then forgot her migraine glasses. I brought them into her, but even so, the school nurse had called by 9:30 and wanted her to be picked up. No fever, but clearly congested and miserable. I don’t think anyone is feeling very motivated to be at school, honestly. Who can blame them.
ETAYA: I have no idea why _Contract Signed_ by Marie Harte was borrowed in my kindleunlimited so I read it. It was not great, but it also was not bad, and, you know, no cost over and above the monthly on the unlimited. The two sequels in this trilogy are also available via unlimited but I don’t know if I’m going to read them.
Still More editing: A. slept from when she came home before 10 am until after 7 pm. She got up but felt bad and shaky; food fixed that. She went back to bed before 9:30 pm and I haven’t seen her since. Apparently, she really needed some extra sleep.
Meanwhile, I read _Master of the Mountain_ by Cherise Sinclair. It was not available through kindle unlimited and also, it was not particularly expensive (I think it was 3.99?). It is what it is, so if you are looking at the description going, wut, probably not for you. If you are into that kind of thing and haven’t read Sinclair before, it was relatively well written and not obviously horrible. The swinger crowd was actually somewhat hilarious. Depending on your perspective it may be a benefit that this is book 1 of a series, and I have every expectation that the rest of the series is in line with what the first book delivers. Always nice to have a predictable ride lined up for when you want that.
