Monday: purple hair, sourdough starter
Jul. 15th, 2019 03:06 pmA couple days ago, I decided I really would go ahead with the purple hair idea I have been contemplating for a really long time and not acting on. Today was the day!
We opted not to lighten first, and to go with a natural base with a ton of added pigments. Turned out dark (expected) and intense (yay!) and I am super happy with it.
The sourdough starter I started Saturday night did not look like it was doing anything Sunday morning and I suspected I had screwed up the proportions anyway, so I tossed it and tried again. It seems to be bubbling along nicely. I am using these instructions:

Only I am using my own milled whole wheat instead. I probably should not have started with hard red, but oh well! The standard instructions (larger amounts, throw away half at each step) annoyed me, so I found this instead which made a lot more sense to me. I think I am going to name it Yeast of Eden.
Dutch was delayed by a day, taking a significant amount of pressure off today’s schedule. I have DNF’d today’s book group selection _The Social Lives of Dogs_. I am still looking forward to the convo; should be a good one. Plus, I will get to hear about people’s gardens.
Last night I watched the second episode of Good Omens; still finishing some sentences in a mutter and anticipating the next line. I clearly reread that book a lot back in the day. I also finally wrote a draft chapter for _I Can’t Stop Thinking About Your Brother_. I started way out of order, with “Validation Is What You Do When You Cannot Possibly Agree”. This morning, when I was telling M. about it when we were out walking, I realized that validation is this amazing overlapping space of etiquette and therapy.
