Friday: one full day in NYC
Jun. 21st, 2019 11:00 pmWe all trooped over to Rockefeller Center and checked in for the NBC Studio Tour. A. got a purple cap with a peacock logo on it. T. got a blue cap with a TRMS logo on it. We were stupid early, so we wandered around the concourse and looked in windows (it was before 10) before finding a Starbucks. A. had a hot chocolate and I had an iced tea. We had all had breakfast at the buffet at the hotel. We walked from the hotel to Rockefeller Center — I had planned it that way on purpose.
The tour was fun. T. asked a lot of questions. A. and I got to be host and guest on the little interactive show taping at the end. Seeing the studio for SNL and the Jimmy Fallon set was pretty neat. A. and I were both struck by how effectively the Race Through New York at Universal Studios Orlando reproduces the spaces at Rockefeller Center. It is not exactly the same, but it is close.
We had lunch at Rock Center Cafe. I had the salmon burger, and they left the sauce off the broccoli slaw, so that was odd, and they warned me about the bun which I did not eat because the fries were awesome (nothing fancy, just whoever was running the fryer was really competent). I also had two Manhattans, which was probably a mistake.
A. and I went to M & M World and bought t shirts, customized M & Ms and a few other items. We walked. Then we rested at the hotel for a while, before venturing out a second time to walk up to Hecksher Playground in Central Park and get splashed on and swing on some swings.
R. and T. went to the 9/11 memorial, which was apparently very emotional. They did not do the museum. They also caught the NPS ferry to Ellis Island and to the Statue of Liberty (but did not go up the statue; I did not buy tickets ahead of time because I was very uncertain how that would work out). They took the subway.
R., A. and I eventually had dinner at Applejacks. A. did not like her sandwich, but the side of bacon was huge (as well it should have been, at $7) and satisfying. I had a 2 egg breakfast, which was fine. R. had a seafood platter, which was enormous and looked very good.
