The weather was drizzly. Track happened anyway, because Team Verge is run by AJ and she will actually send email to people saying that running in the rain builds character. T. had a good time, and A. only wanted to rest after — she didn’t seem to mind either, she was just tired.

R. took T. to NVUB, which was sort of half on / half off — they did play, so that was good. A. and I went to Solomon Pond mall after she rested and I took a nap. The 5K display is not actually compatible with the laptop I bought. It’s really just for MacBook Pros (<— less of an overgeneralization than you might think!). It is perhaps unsurprising that a 2 pound MacBook can drive a 5K display. But disappointing. Especially having to cart that thing home, unbox it, rebox it and return it.

The return was a bit of a story. The woman who sold it to me was the entry person — she recognized me. I explained no bueno — it was not compatible, offered to show her the list on the Apple Store website of compatible models. She handed me off to a sales person to do the exchange, but he was surprised too about the incompatibility and consulted with a tech guy, then wandered off, so then the tech guy had to find another sales guy. Ultimately, I spoke with four (4) Apple Store employees about the 5K monitor / MacBook (12 inch Retina Display) incompatibility issue, and showed three (3) of them the compatibility list. No one argued with me — everyone was very surprised and had no idea.

People online have remarked that the physical compatibility of the USB wtf and the Thunderbolt cable was going to cause problems for confused customers. They really shouldn’t have focused on the customers. This is a training problem for people at the Apple Store. Everyone was really nice, and they didn’t seem to charge me a restocking fee or anything (yeah, I wouldn’t have liked that!), but still. When I dug around online, other people were asking about the compatibility of the vanilla MacBook and the 5K display, and getting incorrect answers (basically, use a Thunderbolt cable and it will work — which I suspect is not helpful).

Plated box arrived. We had the miso maple cod with sesame brittle. The sesame brittle trick (maple syrup and sesame seeds on parchment paper in the oven) is pretty awesome — I will use that more generally. The meal as a whole was tasty (zucchini and quinoa).
