Town election today, and I volunteered for Niki Tsongas recently. My first assignment was to collect signatures for an hour outside the polling place. It is _pouring_. I went anyway and got wetter than I think I've been not-on-a-hike since I was a small child. I did remember an umbrella; I did not remember anything to protect the sheet and clipboard when not being signed. Whoops!
While there, I met two of the three people running for selectmen and chatted for a while with one of the people running for school committee. Once again, rule number one in New England: if you want to meet people when you're new in town, get involved in politics and be polite.
