Books a Million to buy 40 Borders stores

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/10/books-a-million_plans_to_open.html

"The nation’s third-largest book retailer plans to open 40 stores, mostly in former Borders, including nine in Pennsylvania."

I've been waiting to see something like this. BAMM sells a lot of discounted books and picture heavy books so their business might be preserved longer in transition from p->e.

Other uses for an old Borders store: PetSmart

That required a zoning amendment.

Popup Halloween shops are occupying some Borders as well:

Other popup uses mentioned in the article: a music festival, a photography festival.

New uses include buybuyBaby, Stein Mart, another BAMM, another Pet Smart, and ULTA (cosmetics retailer).

The South Nashua location formerly known as Borders is currently a Halloween pop up store.

Our former Borders in Emeryville, Ca (or part of it, anyway) is becoming a Guitar Center.

Actually they are currently tearing apart that whole shopping center to realign it into a pedestrian-oriented live-work space. (See also http://www.emerymarket.com/, http://www.tmgpartners.com/press/press_story_130.html )
