Thursday: walks and plumbing

I walked with N. I haven’t seen her in a while! Her daughter M. is struggling with trying to form study groups in some of her classes. We walked about 3 miles (1.5 and back) on the Nashua River Rail Trail starting from the Dunstable parking lot on Hollis St. The vending machine and chairs cracked me up; it’s apparently on someone’s private property but obviously intended for public use. Very nice! R. says it has been there about 10 years; I can find reviews that mention it going back to 2016 for sure.

We got a spreadsheet from N. the architect with the plumbing fixtures and proposed selections. It needs to go to the engineers for loading and plumbing design and so forth. Either the architect is yanking our chain or our tastes really differ a lot. But that’s fine; we spent time on build.com and other places picking out alternates that were absolutely much more boring than what he picked out and cost a helluva lot less. After spending a bunch of time looking at possible alternate spouts and valves for the sauna, I said to myself, Self! There should not be a spout in here! Bad idea! There should be a bucket. Make sure it can be filled in the adjacent room. Which is the shower and sink area for the bathroom, and it’s already got a lot going on with door to the pool deck and door to the exercise room (my head is objecting to the horrifying collision of climate in that washing up area . . .), so I picked out a corner sink with some depth on the basin and a high arc centerset to go with. We have an alternate gooseneck with lever blades as a second option.

Since I’d entirely gotten rid of some expensive plumbing and decorative elements in the sauna, I am imagining splurging on a cooler, filtered bottle filler and bubbler for the exercise room. I don’t know if I’ll actually go through with it, altho it is really tempting.

R. and I also worked out in detail the shower kit we want. It’s a short list of Grohe bits to recreate the familiar showers we have whenever we are overseas. The architect is OOO for a bit and the assistant reminded us that stuff has to be legal in Massachusetts, so I found the database and started making sure the things we were picking were in that database. It’s a complete pain in the ass to search, but we seem to be doing fine. I’m marking things in the spreadsheet as I confirm they are ok in our state.

I talked to my sister briefly about her area. She does not want to get too far into the details but is interested in taking a look at things as they go by. I put in the current top rated by CR bottom freezer fridge (an LG model) as a placeholder for her fridge.

I still have to pick out some more sinks.

I also walked with M., and had a porch visit with her.

A. is still home sick, and I’m not all the way well but I am feeling much better.
