Thursday’s Activities Include: Hitchhikers
I realized that A. had post-vacation bites. I took a good look at them, called R. and discussed what they might be. There were some on her eyelids, which is apparently pretty conclusive for bedbugs. Gah. Lots of laundry, ordered interceptor traps for the posts of her bed, encasements for her mattresses, and diatomaceous earth, and pulled the bed even further away from the wall than it was. Bagged stuff (inadequately, because I don’t have sealable bags, but I’m trying to at least keep stuff moderately segregated).
It seems fairly clear to me from the location of the bugs that they came home on a big plushie she sleeps with and travels with. Fortunately, it is washable. Not much more I can do tonight. The local hardware store didn’t have interceptor traps and I wasn’t even sure where — other than online — to get the right kind of mattress encasements. I have found _zero_ evidence (and believe me, I have looked) of blood spots, fecal stains, egg casings or, obviously, actual bugs. Everything about this looks like a pre-infestation situation and I’m hoping to keep it that way.
In good news, I’ve found all kinds of interesting things about how to deal with these things.

Obviously, I’m hoping the measures I’ve already taken have dealt with the one that arrived home and any eggs it may have left behind. However, I’m probably wrong, so actually catching one to confirm what we are dealing with would be nice (for example, the isolation strategy I’ve adopted will do absolutely nothing if what I’m actually up against is a spider). The interceptor traps are one way to do that, but I’m sort of hoping that the dry ice contraption above works. Because, super cool.
ETA: Also, 2 hour delay, watched the Sinkholes show with A. She really seems to like the science shows. We’ll apparently be watching more of these.
